Girl’s Day 2022 at da/sec
It was exciting to have 19 young women join the da/sec research group for a day of biometrics and programming on Thursday, April 28th, for this year’s Girl’s Day. The event organized all over Germany provides girls with the opportunity to look into jobs in the area of natural sciences, computer science and mathematics, and to connect with women working in these areas. Equipped with excellent questions and high motivation, our young guest researchers experimented with fingerprint presentation attacks, near-infrared iris scans and face morphing. Further enjoyment was provided by some first programming experiences with MIT’s online tool Scratch as well as Python, and opportunities for questions to PhD students and senior staff over sweets and snacks. We hope that the experience was a joyful one to all participants, and look forward to hosting the event again next year.
