Overview
========
Fake images and videos including facial information generated by digital manipulation have become a great public concern. Until recently, the number and realism of fake videos have been limited by the lack of sophisticated editing tools, the high domain expertise, and the complex and time-consuming process involved. However, it is becoming increasingly easy to automatically manipulate the face of a person due to: i) the free accessibility to large-scale data, and ii) the rapid growth of machine learning and signal/image processing techniques that eliminate manual editing steps.
As a result, the area of research traditionally dedicated to biometrics and general media forensics is being invigorated and is now dedicating growing efforts for detecting facial manipulation in image and video. This is demonstrated through the increasing number of workshops in top conferences, international projects, and competitions.
The first Edition of the “Handbook of Digital Face Manipulation and Detection – From DeepFakes to Morphing Attacks” book is now planned for publication in the Springer Advances in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition series in 2021. The editorial team is soliciting chapter contributions from members of the biometrics, media forensics, computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning research communities. Contributions from other communities which cover aspects strongly related to face digital manipulation and detection are also welcome, e.g., information security, and systems engineering.
This book is planned to be appealing to a broad readership from young to senior researchers to practitioners and industry as well as a reference guide pointing at further literature of this emerging topic. In addition, the book will be Open Access (no fee to be paid by authors), which will guarantee the high success and impact of the book.
