Perceptual Hashing
Project partner: Fraunhofer IGD
Time frame: 1st April 2009 – 28th of February 2012
Description: In this project perceptual hashing algorithms are developed. These methods can be used to identify image and video data without labelling the content. In contrast to digital watermarks, the orginal content is not changed. Unique identifiers, also called fingerprint, are extracted instead. Similar to human fingerprints they allows the identification of content. Perceptual hashes can be used as indices for large databases or for other applications such as monitoring the use of content. Perceptual Hashes can also be used as a primary key in a database, in which additional meta information like author, owner or copyrights are stored.
