Abstract

In recent years, morphing of facial images has arisen as an attack vector on biometric systems. Detection of morphed images has proven challenging for automated systems and human experts alike. Certain deficiencies in the issuance protocol make it possible to infiltrate morphed images into otherwise genuine biometric passports; consequently enabling their use by multiple individuals and thereby breaking the unique link between data subjects and their biometric data.

In this talk, a new method for detection of morphed facial images is presented and evaluated in a proof-of-concept study. The method exhibits promising results and is highly robust, in contrast to existing approaches.
